From the very inception of Baghauli Sugar and Distillery (BSDL) in early 2006, we have been consciously aware of the carbon market opportunities offered under the aegis of Kyoto Protocol. We have considered these carbon market opportunities while deciding to go for a higher efficient co-generation for our sugar mill and many sustainable investments in our distillery operations. At our distillery we are currently pursuing to capture bio-gas from the spent wash produced and use the methane so captured for energy generation. We have also decided to go for bio-composting to ensure Zero Effluent Discharge (ZED). The by-product of bio-composting is manure that will be sold to local farmers at very low price. The associated benefit of reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions that would have happened during the production of synthetic fertilizers is also significant. Finally, we are also implementing an innovative project of capturing CO2 from the fermentation tank that is produced during the fermentation process and in the absence of the project activity be released into the atmosphere, contributing to Global Warming.
